If you have a school interested in turning part of their grounds into a living, learning lab that grows food for the school cafeteria, I’m partnered with Graham Towerton of Permaculture Adventure. Placing Tower Garden orders

Tower Gardens are sold by independent Juice Plus distributors. The distributor you purchase through will be the individual you rely on to walk you through the purchase process and for training and support after the sale.

Depending on your budget, here’s what I would recommend for a school classroom.

If you have $1,090

Tower Garden Flex – $670
Lights – $325
Dolly – $95
This allows the teacher to grow 20 plants with enough supplies for 1 or 2 growing cycles

If you have $1,186

Add extra Supplies to grow for 1 year
Mineral Blend- $65
pH down Adjuster – $31 (The Tower Garden Flex comes with pH up and down adjuster, so you only need extra pH down)

If you have $1,302

Add the Extension Kit and Grow Clips

Extension Kit – $95 (Sits on top of the Flex and allows 8 more plants to be grown.)
Grow Clips – $21 (Easier to use than the netpots, but not recommended for 1st grade and under)

If you have $2,734 and the teacher would like an extensive curriculum.

Tower Garden – Green Bronx Machine Bundle – $1,385
Grows 28 plants. Includes Tower Garden Flex, Lights, Extension Kit, Dolly, Support Cage, and extra supplies

Purchasing Seeds

Several seed packets will come with the Tower Garden you purchase. When the school needs more, seeds can be purchased locally. I recommend black seeded simpson lettuce, arugula, bok choi, and basil for the first growing cycle. After a class is comfortable with lettuces and herbs, it can be a good learning experience to try fruiting crops like tomatoes. Students will learn quickly that they’ll need to hand pollinate and light requirements to grow a tomato.
