LetPot
LetPot and Tower Garden both have their place in school classrooms. I’ve worked with schools that are effectively using both systems, but It’s important to understand the differences.
LetPot and Tower Garden Terminology
LetPot is a hydroponic gardening system. Hydroponic means that the roots are always in the water. Tower Garden is an aeroponic gardening system meaning the roots are hanging in the air.
Plant Capacity Between these Hydroponic Systems
LetPot has systems that can grow as few as 5 plants up to the LetPot Max that can grow 21 plants. Tower Garden can grow 20-28 full-size plants, but there’s also a baby green extension that will allow 16 more plants to be grown.
LetPot Sits on a Counter while Tower Garden sits on the Floor
LetPot is a countertop system where Tower Garden sits on the floor. Tower Garden does have a dolly that makes the system easier to move when needed. LetPot systems can be carried from one place to another. The smaller systems can even be sent home with students to care for during breaks.
Tower Garden can be used indoors or outdoors. LetPot can only be used indoors.
Education Opportunities with Both Systems
Tower Garden systems have more assembly required than LetPot systems do. This might make it less desirable, but it does provide opportunities for hydroponic education that the LetPot does not. LetPot systems do come with instructions and lesson plans for elementary age students.
What can you Grow with Tower Garden Compared to LetPot?
Tower Garden has larger ports than the LetPot systems and the plants are more spread out. This makes it easier to grow more produce. The lights on a LetPot have both blue and red color spectrum making it easier to grow fruiting plants then the Tower Garden that just comes with the blue color spectrum. Both systems come with LED bulbs making them very cool and easy to place close to the growing plants. It’s important to choose the right variety of plant to grow on your hydroponic system. What is the Cost of both Systems?
To purchase what’s needed to grow indoors on a Tower Garden runs between $1,000 – $1,400. The LetPot systems are between $56 and $251 with the mid-range system costing $119.00 retail (Keep It Watered offers 10% off for schools purchasing LetPot systems.)
