Gardening Classes for Kids

Greenhouse Growing Classes for Kids

The greenhouse where classes are held

Greenhouse Growers

Here’s a unique opportunity for children to learn all about the marvelous world of growing plants while immersed in the beauty of a cottage greenhouse located in Winona Lake, Indiana!

In this single-session, interactive class, kids will be pointed to the God of creation by introducing them to an intrinsic part of that creation – the lowly, but amazing, seed! They will learn what’s inside a seed that makes it grow; the parts of a plant and how each part helps a plant to grow; what parts of a plant we eat and parts that we don’t eat, and much more!

Loved Steve’s heart for seeds & his way of relating gardening to the Gospel. Loved the additional story time by his wife, too. Kids were engaged and loved the class!

This class includes:

  • Age-appropriate lesson for grades 1-6.
  • Hands-on activity – participants will plant junior sunflower seeds in a grow pot to take home and plant outside either in your outdoor flower bed or your pot sitting on a porch. These sunflowers grow only 2 feet tall with beautiful blooms.
  • Unique experience – the greenhouse is attached to a home and has room for 6 children; this small class size makes learning even better! (The greenhouse address is on registration page.)

The instructor, Steve Koontz, is the owner of the local business Keep It Watered, and has been an avid gardener and “seed starter” for decades. Steve teaches indoor gardening classes at Purdue Fort Wayne, and is excited to bring the wonder of growing seeds to your kids!

The class is limited to 6 kids per session. All classes are $35 per child which includes supplies for the sunflower kits. If you’d like your child to attend, but these days/times don’t fit with your schedule, or you’d like to pay by check or cash, please contact Steve at steve@keepitwatered.com or 574-366-0939.
